Module 6: The 24-hour rule
Last updated: July 8, 2026
When a signal fires, you have a 24-hour window to act on it. Not arbitrary — because of how human memory works. Nielsen research shows ad recall drops 50% after 24 hours. And responding within an hour makes you 7x more likely to qualify a lead vs. waiting 60+ minutes.
Intent is perishable and a contact researching your category today is thinking about something else next week.
Signal priority guide
Signal strength | Window | Priority |
Ad click (engagement intent) | Same business day | Highest — you know what they’re interested in |
Search for competitor name | Same business day | Highest — they’re actively evaluating |
Search signal (search intent) | Within 24 hours | High — they’re in research mode |
Content consumption (content intent) | Within 24 hours | High — they’re in research mode |
Social post | Within 24 hours | Medium — engage on platform first, then email |
Impressions threshold (no click) | Within 24 hours | Medium — they’ve seen your ads enough to reach out |
⚠ The mistake to avoid (from KD Dorsey): Do nothing. You get the signal and don’t know what to do with it. It sits there. That’s wasted intelligence. With contact-level signals you know who, what, and when. Use the topic, not the signal itself. |
